Right Wing Bottom Skin and Fuel Sender SB fix.... - 5.0 hrs
My goal this weekend is to complete the right wing. And the good news is I have Derek as a helper due to some bribery. He wants to get a ping pong table but it won't fit in the garage until the wings are done. So I told him if he helped me finish riveting this right wing we could get one. I really want one also but I can't let him know that right.... He has been playing at a friends house and talking alot of smak. Seems like a good way to keep him busy during the school break for the summer as well. And I can give him a good working over so he remembers who te BOSS is! I'm a pretty good ping pong player so should be a snap. :)
Anyway I started on completeing Service Bulletin No. SB 06-2-23 on the fuel pickup. I removed the pickup from the tank and performed per the instructions on Van's site. Next I fabbed up the fuel sender float and got it ready to install. I am going to go with no gasket and all proseal. After reading all the info on VAF about leaks with the gaskets and no leaks with all proseal that convienced me. Also I am going tot replace the screw with hex head cap screws. If I do need to get back into to this later after the wing is installed this may save me from removing the wing.
Next I wanted to get the bottom skin prepped for riveting so I skipped finishing the sender install and dimpled the bottom skin. Then I riveted the aileron gap fairing and flap gap fairing.
Then I removed the plastic on the bottom of the skin and clecoed into place. I figured it would be easier to remove the plastic from the top with the pressure of the skin clecoed down to the frame. This stuff comes off easier with the warmer temps we have now. Last I hooked up my handy pulley system to hole the skin up while we rivet freeing our hands up. Next I reinstalled the aileron and shimmed it to final position on the the outboard bracket. This is so I can line up the 1/4 inch gap for the flap clearance. It started getting late so I broke for the night. Should be able to drill the flap hinge in the morning and then we can hit the rivet gun on the skin.
This website was built to document my work in compliance with the FAA requirements
needed to certify my aircraft. My experiences and comments are by no means to be
considered as instructions on how to build any aircraft.
