Wings Update April 2010 Updates
April 13, 2010
Auto Pilot Servo.... - 3.0 hrs
Got Derek to help me move the left wing back to the cradle and then putting the right wing on the work table. I really have a good jumpstart on this one since as I worked on the left I did the duplicate work for the right wing at the same time. I already have the aileron brackets with the bearings installed and riveted together and clecoed in place. Same with the aileron brace and flap bracek. Time to move it.
I got the Trutrak servo kit back out and laid out the pieces. The kit is very well done. All I had to do was remove the bellcrank and prime the control rod pieces. While that dried I went ahead and tapped the tie down ring. With that done I marked the spot to drill the hole on the bellcrank per the trutak instructions. 2 inches from the outer hole.
Once the hole was drilled I deburred and put the controls together. I safe tied the bolts holding the servo to the replacement bracket and then bolted it all in place. I started thinking about the wiring harness that is stuck up under the panel at the hangar. It would sure be easier to install it now in the wing. I am going to have to cut it anyway so I decided to take a wing measurement from the bellcrank area to the wing root and then run over to the hangar and number each wire and cut it. Then I can run it thru the snap bushings.
When I got back I taped up the ends to allow them to pass thru the small holes. I had to remove the servo to get enough room to screw the Dsub connector and screw it in place. Then I used a small adel clamp in 2 places to secure the harness. Ready to go.
As I was doing this I got to thinking that there was a Service Bulletin on the fuel pickup in the tanks. I was not sure how the timing matched with my QB tank purchase. I removed the right tank plate and removed the fuel pickup. Nope.... its not done so not only do I have to do it I also have to undo the other tank that I prosealed up when I installed the fuel sender. O well.... better to catch it now than after the wings were installed. I went ahead and printed out the other SB's to show they are all current.
This website was built to document my work in compliance with the FAA requirements
needed to certify my aircraft. My experiences and comments are by no means to be
considered as instructions on how to build any aircraft.
