Engine Start for Jim Kiloh.... - 0.0 hrs

Jim emailed me to invite me over to his hangor today to witness his first engine start. No way any good RV Builder is going to miss another ones "First Engine Start".

We all showed up around 9:30 to help bring the beast out of its nest. All appeared like a go. Jim crawled in the cockpit and powered everything up. First all of the plugs were pulled and the engine was turned over allowing for the engine to get properly oiled. With plugs back in place and the engine primed and we are ready to go. Jim turned the key and the prop started spinning, and spinning. But now fire. We checked a few things and smelled fuel. Looked in the airbox and WOW. Plenty of fuel in there. In fact good thing it didn't start or we most likely would have had a problem.

Now the bird back in the hangar and time to remove the carb. Good to have folks around that have been there before. Jon B says he thinks its a stuck float. With the carb off and opened that is what it appears to be. Time for a carb overhaul. Anyway it works out for the best because this is one more thing that Jim will not have to worry about down the road.

The last thing to check was making sure there was spark. Seemed like we were just flooded but better safe than sorry. Removed the plugs and put the mags on and crank the spark thru. All plugs show fire. So with everything back together its time to wait for the carburator to return and we can try again another day.
