Fuselage September 2007 Updates

NITS.... - 2.0 hrs

Tonight was Nits night. Before I can put the forward fuse structure behind the panel back in for good I need to get the last areas behind the firewall completed before I rivet the stainless hole cover in place for good.

First I test fit the carpet from Classic Aero Design to make sure there was room to install the transponder antenna next to the vent in the floor just behind the firewall. This gives good seperation from the com antenna and keeps the coax run short as well. I drilled a pilot hole next to the vent on the right side and then opened it up with a unibit to full size.

Next I drilled a hole in the side angle for the heater vent bowden cable. The plans call for just bending a z in the wire but that would allow some play in the wire which would be a wear point over time. I installed a B nut. This is very snug and you just use an allen wrench to hold the wire tight with no slop at all.

All of this stuff would be a pain in the butt to do with the panel in place. I really dread how hard its going to be if I need to get up under here for anything that I forget. I also used an idea from Dan C on using 2 keeper rivets for that angle stiffener in place just above the heater vent. However I put the keeper in the wrong hole. I luckily caught that in time to drill out today and redo. The last thing should be the fuel line exit from the backup fuel pump.
