EAA 774 25th Anniversary.... - 0.0 hrs

No building today as today was EAA Chapter 774's 25th Anniversary BBQ celebration. It was at Sportflyers in Brookshire where we normally meet during the warm months. In the winter we meet at West Houston most of the time.

Phil flew his RV7 in as well as Marshall in his 6. Rick had his K2 as well. There were several other planes as well as a L-29 jet. The L-29 did several take offs and flybys.

But the real treat of the day for me was Bruce Bohannan in his plane that started life as an RV 4. Bruce has been a member of 774 for years and this was the first time I had seen him at a meeting. One look at this plane and you can tell there is something pretty unique about this plane. The most obvious is the 3 blade prop and the long nose in front of the canopy. This extra room is needed for the IO-540 up front behind the Hartzel blended airfoil prop. This plane has 350 horsepower. The normal RV 4 usually has a O-320 which produces 160 HP so you can only imagine how this thing flys. I have seen Bruce over the years at the RENO air races and Oshkosh as his claim to fame is the shortest time to climb to 41631 feet. http://www.pilotjournal.com/content/2003/septoct/tiger.html

The last 2 pics are actually videos. When Bruce was leaving for the day to head back to his ranch near Angleton his take off roll was only around 250 feet then it jumped off the ground.
