SWRFI 2007.... - 0.0 hrs

This weekend was SWRFI in Hondo and I had never been so Jon asked me to go. We were supposed to leave at 7:30 but it was IFR up until almost 10am. We finally blasted off around 9:45. We headed south first to the clearer skys and then headed west towards Hondo. We climbed up to 6500 but the buildups keep rising up to meet us so we moved up to 7500. We eventually had to climb even more before we found a hole to get down through.

When we arrived there was a good mix of planes and lots of my favorites RV's! I have added some pics from the trip.

We wanted to get some cheaper fuel so we headed to New Braunfels on the way home. $3.90 per gallon was better than the $5.00 plus at the flyin. I can never figure these guys out. They have a captive audience and they could sell all the fuel they wanted if they would stop screwing people. Everyone tracks the airports around for the best price so they loose out on the sales. On the way back we had to climb higher to get over the tops but they were more broken and holes all the way. There were big buildups closer to Houston to the north and south but we had a clear shot back to Jon's home base Dry Creek. About 30 miles out it cleared nicely and we make a nice drop into the airport. Another excellent landing Jon. That makes about 6 in a row that were perfect.
