Elevator Trim Wire.... - 2.0 hrs

Derek had a birthday party to go to today so when I dropped him off I stopped by the hangar to get a few things done.

First thing I was going to try out the IPOD with the new cable I picked up for the music input. I had to get an adapter for the PSE audiopanel side as the jack is smaller than the one on the IPOD and they don't make a patch cable at radio shack with different ends.

When went to test it out guess what I left on. THE MASTER SWITCH and the Avionics Master! I guess the other night I was so jazzed about getting the starter switch working I forgot to turn it off. I guess I need to put the checklist in the plane now. :)

Anyway normally this would not be a big deal as I have a battery tender plugged into it. Well I left that unhooked as well. Battery was so dead that when I plugged in the trickle charger no light comes on. Went down and borrowed Lenny's big charger. Plugged it in and bam it went to 12 amps.

While this was charging I moved on to the tail and started looking how I was going to bring the trim wire up from the bottom of the fueslage up to the trim motor location in the elevator. There is a hole drilled in the back spar of the HS so I inserted a snap bushing there. I already have the trim wired pulled to the very back of the tail cone with the strobe and power wires for the rudder light. So I pulled just the trim wire back to the bulkhead that comes up to the turtledeck. I am bringing the wire up that bulkhead and drilled a hole in the aft deck with a rubber grommet. I am going to use an adel clamp to hold the wire on top of the deck and pass it thru another snap bushing to get to the HS rib opening at the aft deck. There are already big lighting holes to pass it thru to the rear snap bushing but that wire would just rattle around the big hole and chaffe so I drilled a smaller hole next to the big one and installed another grommet the size of the wire. Next if fished the wire out the snap bushing in the rear spar and its ready to terminate at the motor.

I didn't take any picures of this since its not finished and I ran out of time before I had to go pick Derek back up at the party. Before I left I unplugged the charger and put the trickle charger back on. Whamo the light came on. I guess when the battery is completly dead the trickle charger won't come on. Anyway I turned everything back on and plugged in the IPOD. Music was playing thru the headset. Tested the mike by saying test... test..... test... and the soft mute came on and the music went away. When I stopped saying test.... the music slowly came back on. Cool.
