Strobe Pak wiring.... - 5 hrs
Ok time to wire up the strobe pak. I realize now that I have riveted down the floor panels and how the heck am I going to get the wires from the tail light and strobe to the front. Not a problem except I forgot to also open the tooling holes for a 5/8 snap bushing down in the center channel. Any wiring in this needs to be tight against the side to clear the push tubes. So the first order of business was to find a way to enlarge the hole but a regular drill and unibit will not fit the small width. I used the close quarters drill with a bit that opened up the hole just slightly less than 1/2 inch. Then I used the drimmle tool to open up to fit the bushing.
Next I ran a seperate power and ground line for the the strobe pak to the front along with the power and ground for the tail light. The strobe terminates at the strobe pak so that is not a problem. I will run the wing strobes up the other side of the center channel and split at the wing spare.
Next it was time to install the ELT remote switch. The problem with putting this switch on the panel is then you have to run a phone line with an RJ11 on the end of it up to the panel. So I stole the idea that Dan C used to put it on the baggage bulkhead. Last summer when Dan took me up on a discovery flight with him I asked him if he liked where he put the ELT remote. He said the only thing he would do differnet is put it in the bulkhead instead of the baggage cover. That way you don't have to mess with the wiring when you remove the cover. So I made a template and taped it in place and used the drimmel tool to cut it out. I drilled out tiewrap holes down the baggage stiffener to run the phone wire down to the bottom of the rear fuselage. I think this will work out nice.
