Canopy Rails.... - 3.0 hrs

Today I was going to mount the canopy rails and make sure the magnatometer wiring was tied up away from the screws under the canopy decks. I also need to run the static tube on the left side.

I started out by removing the masking tape to cleco the rails which I painted black and then drill them out for the screws. Jim Kilo stopped by for a visit. He said he used a lower profile screw so I found some stainless pan heads with a allen style head which will sit lower.

So as I get the tape off on the right side I cleco the rail in place and drill out the holes to #19. I move over to the left to repeat and as I peeled the tape off the paint came with it. Major bummer here! So now I had to prep this and repaint as it looks like crap. As you can see from the pic it was all the way up the full length and some of the sides. I sanded it first to feather out the edges of what paint stayed and then I used a scotchbrite pad. Cleaned it up and then primed. Once that dried I shot the Rust Oleum Dark Bronze.

Now I can get back to mounting the canopy rails. I think I will just tape some bubble wrap over the sides to protect it until I get the canopy in place.
