Replaced Resistor for LED NAV Lights ..... - 4.0 hrs

I noticed the other day during a taxi test that I had white noise on the radio. I did some further testing to find that it was the LED NAV lights causing the issue. I gave Jeff a buzz to find out that he said Cletus I told you not to use those pucks and suggested to change out the pucks that came with the lights to a 8 ohm 20 watt resistor from Radio Shack.

So today I removed the wingtips and started that process. I had to make up some little brackets to hold them in place and I clipped off the wires from the old pucks since Jeff did such a nice job on those little plug in connectors. I didn;t want to loose that ability to easily unplug them when I need to remove the wingtips.

I used terminators to connect the wires to the resistor to power and grounded the ground side to one of the pull rivets I used for the brackets just like I did before. Once I completed the left side I plugged it back in and powered up for a test. Works like a champ. I then used some silicone in the bracket to keep it from rattleing around.

Next I removed the right side wingtip. Then I worked on a lead weight I made by melting down some fishing weights. I needed to mount this in the elevator to balance it. I am going to drill a hole in it and install a rivnut to allow it to be screwed in place in case I ever need to change it after paint.
