Reno 2009.... - 0.0 hrs
Well we missed Reno last year for the first time in 8 years due to Hurricane IKE. But not this year. We did the usual by leaving on Thursday Sept. 17th and arrived around 1pm local time. Got the rent car and headed to the hotel. Switched locations this year. We usually stayed at the Atlantis but this time we moved to the Pepper Mill. What a great hotel and casino. This will for sure be our new spot.
Friday we went out first thing in the morning, picked up our pit passes and away we go. This year my sister Judy and her husband (my broinlaw) Big Fred went with us. I got our tickets all togethr but they only came to the races on Friday and Sunday. The rest the time the were in the casino except for Friday they took a run to Tahoe. I been there done that... can't be missing races for that stuff. We also took both of our dads with us. They only came out for part of the day Friday and they were casino locked as well. That and football games. Can you believe that! All of these airplanes around and they stay at the casino!!!!
Anyway Kim and I did our usual thing and started at the pits and ended up in the stands around noon. Then browsed around the rest of the time. The Blues put on an awesome show as usual.
Well I included some pics here of the show. Starting with the decent of the Flag! and then the departing the pits for the Gold race on Sunday. Strega won hands down not even close. Piloted by the young Steve Hinton jr. Quite Impressive. The first 3 laps were over 500 mph. Next year when Dago Red returns it is really going to be hard for me to choose. Both of these planes are my favorites from over the years. Its kind of hard to tell they are P-51's with some of the mods but they are beautiful planes.
That picture of Strega is in the first lap and no one was even close behind.
This website was built to document my work in compliance with the FAA requirements
needed to certify my aircraft. My experiences and comments are by no means to be
considered as instructions on how to build any aircraft.
