More Wing Tip Work and Root Fairings ..... - 8.0 hrs

Finally got the left wing tip complete. I started the day out glueing the reinforcing stips on the other side today. While they were clamped in place and drying I started drilling the holes for the nutplates using the #4 jig. Once they were drilled I started riveting the nutplates to the bottom edge. Once the bottom was complete I removed the clamps and started on the top edge. 38 nutplates take along time. I can see why some folks go with the clickbond system. If it was not so expensive I would of tried it.

Anyway when finished I went ahead and screwed it on to the end of the wing. It really is solid with everything screwed in place. While I was working on that Jim K stopped by. He could not remember having the issue I am having with the wing root fairing. He suggested that I not try to trim that bulkhead doubler. It was just way to big. After he left he went to his hangar and took some pics and emailed them to me. The IPAD was running email for me so I was able to see the pics and make the fix. Turned out the doublers would get replaced with 2 AN716 washers on each side.

I was going to leave it for another day since it was getting late. I looked at the vent fitting and noticed the bulkhead nut is on the outside of the fuselage. I removed the flare fitting and then unscrewed the nut. Removed the doubler and replaced with 2 washers which are the same thickness. Worked out to be a quick fix thanks to Jim.

I went ahead and did both sides and then installed the rightside fairing as well. I will leave these clecoed in place to bend the shape before I drill and countersink for screws.
