Started on the New Canopy...... - 4.0 hrs
Happy Turkey Day everyone! This morning I went down to the hangar and cracked open the crate I picked last weekend from Vans with the new canopy parts. I took everything out except the canopy and inventoried the parts.
Next I removed the old canopy that got bent and started fitting the new frame. I put together the new rollers. Might could of used the old ones but they were already drilled and I didn't want to try to match the old holes up. I spent alot of time looking over old notes from the plans, instructions and tips from RVaitor 27 years. Trying to pull all best practices together on this fit.
I even picked up the pieces for the slider on top of the fuse. I think I am about a quarter inch to far forward. I test fit the frame by installing the new rollers in the frame and moving it up and down the track. The pins obviously don't line up with the old pin blocks so I will need to remove those first to check the fit up to the roll bar.
I did go ahead and clamp the side pieces in place to see how these would clear the sides so far. So far so good.
I also went to Lowe's and picked up the Werner work platform for $19.00. I missed out last year and they ran out. Not this time!!!
This website was built to document my work in compliance with the FAA requirements
needed to certify my aircraft. My experiences and comments are by no means to be
considered as instructions on how to build any aircraft.
