More Cowl Work ..... - 12.0 hrs

This is actually an update for the last 2.5 weeks. It started on 5/22 when I went to the hangar to work on the oil door in between working on the bottom cowl at the house. No pics of that yet but will have in the next update.

I built a manometer I found on the web to check the pitot and static system. First I hooked it up to the pitot tube and blew up the water to 160 knots. The reading on the EFIS airspeed and backup gauges were dead on and the pressure held for 2 minutes. Next I put tape on one side of the static ports and used clay to hold the tubing in place on the other side. I used a syringe to suck pressure this time which caused the altimers to move up. I used the paper gauge to measure 35 inches of vaccum which registered 2500 feet. Again there was a bit of a leak but in tolerance. Hard to tell if the clay and tubing were really sealing ok.

Next I taped the oil door in place and worked on drilling the offset hinge in place. I built up a fiberglass spacer about an 1/8 inch thick to stiffen up the door and allow more to rivet too. This fiberglass work is very time consuming.

Jim and Ian showed up in Jims plane for lunch at Weiser. The videos below are them taxing out and taking off from Carls.

Last I marked the oil door for the Hartwell latches and used the dremel with a cut off wheel to make the cuts. Needle file and they are about ready to mount. Then it was back to the bottom cowl. More pin hole filling sanding and prime and sand and prime and fill. You know the drill.
