Heat Muff Right Wing Root Fairing and Aileron Trim ..... - 4.0 hrs

Cold front came in late yesterday and cleared everything out. Cool start but nice in the afternoon. Received my new heatmuff from Spruce. Started out the day installing it. Its not the exact geometry I need but I think I can make it work and I like the hinged openings to make the fit. You basically just remove a hinge pin on one of the hinges and it opens on the opposite hinge. I used the clamps to hold it and tried a few different angles. Hope this one works without hitting the cowling. I had to add another heat shield on the exhaust to protect the scat tubing.

Next I wanted to clean up the safety wiring on the aileron trim mechanism. I took a measurement of the saftey wire which was about 4.5 inches on each side. I shortened that by .5 to 4 and made up these wire control rods. I used a tool to bend the z bend in them on one end which goes into the trim handle. On the other end the rods are threaded with small clevis connections. These connect to the springs and there are saftey clips that keep the clevis pins from coming loose. Came out great. I should of taken a before and after picture. This looks like the way to do it.

Next was the right side wing root fairing. After I reinstalled last time I used my jig to mark the quarter inch line so today I removed it and cut it to fit with tin snips. Cleaned it up with a scotchbrite pad and reinstalled with the rubber seal. One more thing down.

Then I got the push rod boots I bought from Classic Aero. These are pretty nice. You basically insert this ring between the fuse sides and the inside floor rib. You pop rivet this in place and then the leather boot zip ties to this ring. Keeps cold air from coming in from the wing. I read the directions then realized I still need to relocate the pitot tube before I can install these. Then Jim and Ian showed up in his 7A. When they left I snapped the picture. 2 Scottsman out cruzing around Texas in a airplane.... I bet it is warmer here than back in Aberdeen eh!
