More on Elevator Tips & Wheel Pants.... - 3.0 hrs

Got to the hangar after laying up the epoxy to the elevator tips. Popped right off the plastic. The finish was still wrinkly so I used a abrasive disk on the diegrinder to take the surface done. I forgot to take a starting point picture. Notice how once smooth it has some holes to fill.

After checking the fit I could see it would need to be built up somemore. Instead of taking several coats and having the same issue I cut some thin poster board to make a holding area. I held the piece in place with tape. I mixed up a thick batch and layered it on. Even with the heater it was only 51 degrees. So I knew I was done for the day even with fast set epoxy.

Next I installed the nutplates on the right main wheel pant. Goes much faster with the #6 nutplate jig. Still thinking about the ClickBond fasteners I saw at the Reno Air Races for the wing tips. 2 thirds less drilling.

I put the tips on plastic again smoothed out to minimize the wrinkles in hopes of not having to take much off this time to leave no holes to fill. Hopefully this stuff will cure tonight even though it is going to be below freezing again for the 3rd day.
