Nose Gear Fairing.... - 7.0 hrs

Ok if you building an A model with the nose gear you will need a Bogie Bar to tow the plane as the other brands will not spread around the nose gear fairings. In addition you will need the tow pin adapters to give enough length. As you can see in the picture its a longer cap screw with a bushing and 2 washers and a lock washer to replace the ones from Vans. I had to add washers to the ones from Vans anyway to keep the screw from going thru the fork and hitting the tire. This was no big deal since you need the length for the to bar forks. The next 2 pics show the before and after picture to show the length.

Once these were replaced I was able to see the cap screw head and I drilled a #40 pilot hole in the center of the dark spot where the screw head showed in the gear fairing. Came out perfect. I took a few pics of the tow bar from Bogert. It really spreads wide to clear the fairing and the fits right over the screw caps. A few more cuts to get the proper clearance around the tire and its ready to sand and prime. Next I worked on the nose gear fairing. I laid up 2 plys of glass and epoxy right where the fairing goes down to the clamp below the hole in the top of the nose fairing. This fiberglass work is so time consuming.

Next I worked on the oil door. I didn't get any pics but I was able to do some more sanding to get it to close smoothly and added the round locks. Just a bit more sanding and it should be ready to rivet in place.

Last I found a neat gadget to purge the brakelines on VAF. I fabbed up the parts and added the pickle jar. Its all ready to fill up the brake lines. Just pour the brake fluid in the jar. Use the air gun to the input side and attach the long line to the purge valve. Open up the valve and add air pressure. Should push the fluid right up the lines to the resevoir. Should work great.
