Father Son Project.... - 0.0 hrs

No work on the plane this weekend. Too many other things going on.

Awhile back I bought one of the Van's Practice Kits. It is a simple tool box. My thought was this training project could give me a chance to teach Derek several different styles of riveting, using aluminum parts identical to those that make up the airplane. He has been asking about how certain tools work.

I had him go thru the same steps I go thru because the kit is setup up just like the various kits that make up the plane. He had to do a parts checkoff from the parts list to show nothing was missing. By going over each part he knows what the parts are now. Makes more sense as you put things together.

I started him out deburing the edges with a file and then finishing off with a scotch bright pad. We discussed why this is important to minimize stress cracks on the plane. He was getting into it. I think when he starts drilling and riviting and he sees it coming together he will really get the bug.
