More Cowl work and Misc.... - 5.0 hrs

I ran out of time yesterday to mix up a batch of epoxy and flox to fill the holes in the cowl and it was getting colder. Today is not much better but I need to get it done. On the top cowl I only had holes drilled on the right side and I wanted to minimize the sanding. So I used masking tape on the outside with plastic stips so the mix would not stick to the tape as I worked it into the holes. As I pushed it thru the holes I backed it up with a piece of wood and then I cleaned off as much as I could to minimize sanding as much as possible.

No pics of this process as it is messy and didnt want to infect my camera with epoxy flox. Next while that was setting up I tore the plastic off the propellor and reinstalled new shrink wrap to clean up the prop area from the baggy plastic. I tapped the ends and around the prop spinner area to minimze scratches around the hub. Once I get the canopy fit right I will remove the plywood spacer and finish drilling the screws around the hub and complete the spinner installation.

Next I was dead in the water with the cowl since the epoxy mix was slow drying due to the cold weather. Even though I used the fast hardener which is no way used in the summer unless you have a really small batch it was taking forever to setup. Still tacky after 2 hours.

So I started cleaning up around the hangar and cleaned off my work table to start to review the baffle process. I cannot remember when this table has been this cleaned off. I found some pics I took last week of a strange occurance for Weiser. When I showed up last week there was a Cessna Caravan float plane about to leave. So I jumped in the truck and ran out to the gas pumps to catch him taking off. I just barely made it and fired off 2 shots. Man that thing just wanted to fly. Anyway I got the parts spread out and started looking over the instructions. This is going to be a tedious project getting all of these pieces of aluminum wrapped around the engine.
