Cowl Work.... - 2.0 hrs
Today I had to help Kirby put the wing back on his plane. He had to replace the skins on the leading edge. He had it all ready and blocked up so it was not that difficult. Hard to believe the wing is held on by only 2 bolts in the spar and one on the back edge of the wing.
Once that was done it was time to work on the cowl. I removed both halves and removed the side cam stips. Did some more final sanding on the edges for the paint gaps.
I removed spinner spacer and reinstalled the cowl pieces. Looking good maybe needs a bit more in 2 spots. On the cams on the sides of the lower cowl I need one more camlock on each side close to the top edge. This means to redrill with different spacing on the sides. It looks like I can do this using several of the existing holes. This will hold the cowl in place much better and I will only have to fill in 3 holes on each side.
This week I did some more research on how to remove the grommet snap rings and found that Milspec has changed the receptical cages. I emailed him and he is going to swap mine out with the new design. I have to tell you it is impressive how the different vendors I have worked with on the plane have gone above and beyond on customer service. If you are thinking of going with camlocks instead of hinges I would highly recommend to call Jeremy at Milspec!
Last I changed out the beads in the plug dryers. Nice and blue again.
